OOHO! MEMO

The assignment was to compose a memo for Skipping Rocks Lab's Ooho! water bubble for a made up event at the 2019 New York City Marathon. This was a part of a large midterm press kit in which I had to create PR for an event from start to finish. Please refer here to see more.

Re: Plans for Ooho!’s Introductory Event With Kara Goucher at the 2019 New York City Marathon

Date: October 3, 2019

This memo provides an overview of Ooho!’s upcoming introductory event with Kara Goucher at the 2019 New York City Marathon on November 3rd, 2019.

Communications objective

Our objective is to bring awareness to our Ooho! water bubble product by showcasing its ease and accessibility. We want to shift the traditional use of plastic packaging toward sustainable behaviors when eating out. Our mission with the 2019 NYC Marathon event with Kara Goucher will incentivize the talk around the Ooho! water bubble and all its benefits including ease and its environmental friendliness throughout several media channels.

Target audience

Demographics: Women, men, and children of all ages

Psychographics: Active and on-the-go individuals who attend restaurants and events such as parties, festivals, and marathons; environmentalists

Suggested media spokesperson

As a native Queens New Yorker, Olympian, and marathoner, Kara Goucher would be a great spokesperson for the Ooho! water bubble at the 2019 New York City Marathon. She’s a 10k meter silver medalist at the 2007 World Championships and represented her country at the 2008 Beijing and 2012 London Olympics. Goucher made her marathon debut at the New York City Marathon in 2008 where she finished 3rd place. Since then, she’s participated in marathons from New York, to Boston, and to South Korea.

Event description

Kara Goucher will bring her family to the 2019 NYC Marathon to cheer on and hand out Ooho! Water bubbles to marathoners entering Manhattan from Queens through the Queensboro Bridge. There, she will participate in interviews and a presentation by the Skipping Rocks Lab’s co-founders Rodrigo Garcia Gonzalez and Pierre Paslier.

Key message points during presentation and interviews

  • History of who she is

    • Goucher will provide a background of who she is from her journey of being a regular New Yorker to becoming an award winning Olympic long-distance runner. This will help her connect with our target audience

  • How Ooho! is a better alternative and why she prefers disposable water bubble when running

    • As a professional long-distance runner, Goucher always puts an emphasis on hydration to sustain her during her runs. However, she will discuss the facts and statistics of the trash produced during events like marathons. As an alternative to the disposable water cups passed out during such events, Goucher will provide a testimonial on why she prefers the Ooho! due to its environmental and ease factors.

  • Its ease for all family members

    • As seen through her social media profiles, Goucher also puts an emphasis on family. Goucher, husband Adam Goucher, and their son will be using and passing out the Ooho! during the marathon and will represent our target audience.
