Seven thousand seven hundred seventy-two miles is the approximate distance between Punjab, India to Brooklyn, New York. That’s the distance Ravneet Kaur, now Ravneet Dhamrait traveled with her family for better opportunities when she was only 10. Ravneet is a first-generation Indian American majoring in the City College of New York’s competitive Advertising and Public Relations (Ad/PR) program; a program that explores integrated marketing, advertising, corporate communications, and public relations to deliver practical knowledge and hands-on experiences for students. Ravneet applied to the competitive program during her sophomore year after hearing about it from a classmate and being encouraged by her older sister. Now, she’s on track to pursue her passion of doing PR for companies and organizations that participate in non-for-profit social impact.

Ravneet values Ad/PR not only for its rigorous courses, but because of the professors who constantly push her to be proactive. The program’s hands-on courses and opportunities has helped her grow both professionally and as a person. She’s learned how to deliver and showcase herself when applying for internships and networking. As a bonus, her studies also have helped her communicate better  with friends and family.

The program’s courses and professors are the reasons why she’s secured two prestigious internships with Finn Partners in Spring 2020 and with the nationally competitive MAIP program (Multi Cultural Internship Program) in only her junior year. Ravneet stated, “I felt lost in my career path before joining Ad/PR, but now I know where I stand. The program has helped me highlight my strengths and realize my weaknesses.”

Now an American citizen, Ravneet’s Indian roots and culture impact everything she does. She dreams of landing a well-paying job in communications where she can support herself and help her family purchase a house.

Within the program, Ravneet enjoys additional support from the culturally diverse Ad/PR majors who have become friends and with whom she enjoys sharing her culture. While she appreciated Brooklyn, New York City, and all the opportunities she has benefited from, Ravneet remains deeply connected to her Indian heritage and values.

Through the Advertising/PR program Ravneet's determination and hard work and paying off personally and professionally. She is on a clear path to fulfill her dreams.
