CreamySmooth Ice Cream Inc. Introduces Environmentally Friendly Pint Container
The ice cream company to be the first to use sustainable material in their packaging
PORTLAND, MAINE, OCTOBER 16, 2019 – In the next month, CreamySmooth Ice Cream Inc. will begin switching their packaging to a new FDA approved eco-friendly pint container, the Nature Safe Pint™.
What makes the new pint unique is that it’s made from an unbleached brown paperboard, an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional containers that use harmful bleaching agents. According to the director of packaging development Stephan Michaels, “We’re not going to keep the packaging ideas to ourselves. We plan to share it with our competitors and other manufacturers. The bottom line is that this new packaging can really have an impact on protecting our environment, and that’s what we really care about most.”
CreamySmooth is working in collaboration with Brookwood Internations, BrinkTimeCup, and EarthWatch to develop the new pint. Amy Ford of EarthWatch, a non-profit group known for its efforts to protect the environment shares that standard papermaking uses chlorine as a bleaching agent which discharges millions of gallons of organochlorine-laced waste particles into the environment every day. These chemicals are extremely toxic and considered hazardous for human health.
